Abstract

The post partum period that is at risk for postpartum complications mainly occurs in the first 3 days after delivery. Breast milk dams can occur on the 2nd or 3rd day when the breast has produced milk. Dams are caused by non-smooth milk expenditure, because babies are not enough for breastfeeding, production increases, late suckling, relationship with the baby (bounding) is not good, and can also be due to the suppression of breastfeeding time. One of the causes of the brest milk dam is the nipple that is submerged. Breast milk dams often occur in post partum mothers. This study aims to determine the relationship of breastfeeding frequency, early breastfeeding initiation (IMD), breastfeeding position and nipple state with the incidence of Breast milk dam in Kuala Kapias Subdistrict Teluk Nibung district in 2018.
This type of research is Cross-Sectional approach conducted in Beting Kuala Kapias Subdistrict Teluk Nibung District. The implementation time of the research was in May - September 2018 with a sample of 30 post partum mothers. Data were analyzed by alternative tests, namely Fisher's Exact Test because the Chi Square test requirement did not meet.
The results showed that there was a relationship between breastfeeding frequency (ρ = 0.026), early breastfeeding initiation (IMD) (ρ = 0.023), breastfeeding position (ρ = 0.006) and nipple state (ρ = 0.028) with the incidence of breast milk in post partum mothers in the Beting Kuala Kapias Subdistrict in Teluk Nibung District in 2018.
There is a relationship between the frequency of breastfeeding, Early Breastfeeding Initiation, breastfeeding position and the condition of the mother's nipples with the incidence of Breast milk dam in Beting Kuala Kapias Subdistrict Teluk Nibung District in 2018. To the local health workers to teach mothers post partum correct breastfeeding methods or techniques, advise mothers to give Breast milk immediately after delivery, and explain to post partum mothers the causes and consequences of Brest milk dams.
