Abstract
IMD when a baby is two to the first 24 hours after birth can prevent 16% of deaths of infants under the age of 28 days. IMD socialization needs to be carried out on health workers, in this case midwives have an important role in the management of breastfeeding while education and training on IMD is still rarely done for health workers in Sundari Hospital Medan. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of knowledge, attitudes, motivation and training with the implementation of IMD by midwives at the Medan Sundari Hospital in 2018.
The study design was an analytical survey with a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study were all midwives in the Sundari Hospital Medan totaling 38 respondents. Samples in this study used a total population. The analysis in this study was univariate and bivariate analysis with the chi square test.
The results of the study based on univariate analysis showed that the majority of knowledgeable are lack (52.6%), the majority of midwives have a negative attitude (60.5%), the majority of respondents have less motivation (60.5%) and the majority of respondents have never attended IMD training ( 65.8%) with the chi square test it is known that the p-value for the knowledge variable is .000 <.05, the attitude variable with the p-value = .002 <.05, the motivation variable with the p-value = .000 < .05 and training variables with p-value = .002 <.05.
The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between knowledge, attitudes, motivation and training with the implementation of IMD by midwives at Sundari Hospital Medan in 2018. It is expected that Sundari Hospital Medan to further improve training for midwives about the implementation of the Early Breastfeeding In order to provide services the best for mothers and babies.
