Abstract

Red Guava fruit (Psidium guajava L.) has many benefits, besides it can be consumed this fruit can also be used as raw material for cosmetics because it contains antibacterial (flavonoids, eugenol, tannin, terpenoids), vitamin c which is antioxidant and has antibacterial effectiveness against stapyllococcus aureus, stapyllococcus epidermis. This study aims to determine the red guava fruit extract (Psidium guajava L.) can be formulated in solid soap and to find out the solid dosage gives an antibacterial effect on the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
This research was an experimental research that extracts obtained by using maceration method then made preparations of solid soap red guava fruit extract (Psidium guajava L.) with a concentration of 1%, 2% and 3%, then soap preparations were evaluated by organoleptic test, pH test, irritation test for volunteer skin and antibacterial effectiveness test.
The manufacture of solid soap preparations using red guava fruit extract (Psidium guajava L.) concentrations of 1%, 2% and 3% fulfilled the criteria, the organoleptic test was brown in the form of solid and characteristic odor, solid soap pH test which was 9, irritation test on volunteer skin that is, there is no irritation, the foam height test is 28 mm, 26 mm and 26 mm, the antibacterial effectiveness test on solid guava extract with 14 mm inhibitory zone, 16.2 mm, 17.4 mm in the positive control zone 12 inhibition 1 mm and negative control zone 4.5 mm.
Based on these results it can be concluded that the solid soap extract of red guava fruit (Psidium guajava L.) has provided the effectiveness of inhibitory power on the growth of Staphylococcus aureus.
