Abstract
The Supplementary Food Giving Program (PMT) is a government effort to address the problem of undernourished children under five. Based on the evaluation of the PMT program held from September to November 2017 to 27 undernourished children with results found 18 toddlers (66.7%) did not experience an increase in nutritional status. Supplementary Food Provision is not yet effective, allegedly because the implementation of PMT program has not been effective. The purpose of the study was to determine the factors that influence the effectiveness of sending / receiving, storing, distributing, and supplementing food for malnourished children under five at the Heakth Centre of Langsa Lama in 2017.
This type of research was descriptive qualitative with an ex post factor approach. The informants were 6 people consisting of 1 nutrition officer, 1 head of health centre of langsa lama, 4 midwives. To explore further the effectiveness of PMT included 27 mothers of toddlers by collecting data through interviews based on the questionnaire. Data were analyzed by reduction, presentation and drawing conclusions and describing factors affecting the effectiveness of PMT.
The results of the study that PMT has not been effective due to delays in sending biscuits to the health centre, storing biscuits in the inpatient room is placed on the floor and storage in the target house in cabinets and boxes. Distribution requires the addition of officers and special vehicles so as not to interfere with other tasks and the form of the report is not yet systematic. Other factors are eating parenting and health care patterns.
It is recommended that the head of the health centre make technical guidelines on involvement of midwives and cadres in monitoring the PMT program and provide training to improve their ability to manage the dietary of malnutrition todlers. And do the priority of KIA programs, especially malnourished children under five by allocating BOK funds. Health care workers provide health education regularly to improve maternal knowledge about the benefits of supplementary feeding to toddlers.
