Abstract
Nutritional problems in Indonesia to date have experienced multiple nutritional problems, namely on the one hand the problem of malnutrition has not been overcome thoroughly but a new problem has arisen that is in the form of over nutrition. Data obtained from SouthTeupah Health Center in 2017 received a percentage of malnutrition according to weight and age of 0-59 months at 17%. The purpose of this study was to analyze maternal knowledge about nutrition, history of exclusive breastfeeding, family income, number of family members, dietary habits with malnutritional status in toddlers at South Teupah Health Center of Simeuleu District in 2018.
This research method is a mixed method (quantitative and qualitative) with a sequential explanatory approach. The populations of this study were all toddlers aged 2-3 years 269 toddlers and a sample of 73 toddlers. The quantitative analysis were univariate and bivariate using Chi-square test. The data collection techniques were primary, secondary and tertiary. The informants in qualitative research consisted of 2 main informants and 3 additional informants. The qualitative data analysis with description, reduction, selection, conclusion and sensation.
The results showed that most of the maternal knowledge about malnutrition was 43 people (63%), the history of did not do exclusive breastfeeding was 60 people (82.2%), low family income was 47 people (64.4%), the number of members a large family of 45 families (61.6%) and unfavorable dietary habits as many as 43 families (58.9%). The results of this study were strengthened by in-depth interviews that the problem was the cause of the occurrence of malnutrition toddlers.
It can be concluded that there is a relationship between maternal knowledge about nutrition, family income, number of family members, dietary habits and there is no relationship between the history of exclusive breastfeeding and malnutrition in toddlers atSouth Teupah Health Center, Simeuleu District in 2018. It is suggested to the health workers to provide communication educational information (CEI) regarding malnutritional status of toddlers and their response at the family level through supplementary feeding programs at the Health Center.
